Cyanometer 1.1

The cyanometer, originally conceived by Genevan physicist and Alpine explorer Horace-Bénédict de Saussure in 1789, serves as an instrument for quantifying 'blueness', specifically measuring the intensity of blue in the sky. This device allows for insights into atmospheric conditions, as a deeper blue indicates lower water vapor content. Saussure's design featured 53 segments arranged in a circular format, transitioning from white through various shades of blue to black, employing Prussian blue for accuracy. His cyanometer was utilized in numerous locations including Geneva, Chamonix, and Mont Blanc. Notably, Alexander von Humboldt also employed a cyanometer during his American expedition from 1799 to 1804.

Our modern interpretation of the cyanometer offers three modes of use. The contemporary scale presents distinct gradations of blue, ranging from clear white to black. The Saussure scale aims to reflect the original color spectrum of Saussure's invention. Additionally, a user-defined scale allows individuals to incorporate personal scans of blue skies, creating a customized circular representation—an individual cyanometer.

Each scan is securely stored within the app, along with relevant details such as date, time, and location, facilitating comparisons of sky color across different environments.
